Friday Fashion: Jason Wu Fall 2014

Understated Glamour. Austere Elegance. These were the words surrounding Jason Wu's fall collection, which debuted on Day 2 of New York Fashion Week. The descriptors suggest a certain subtly, as if luxurious touches and references could be easily overlooked. Always the contrarian, I disagree wholeheartedly! The glamour was wildly apparent with silhouettes and materials reminiscent of Old Hollywood (slinky dresses, menswear, fur...). Far from understated or austere, this collection is more like a glamorous snapshot of the past.

"This season is about a softer glamour, there’s still a lot of emphasis on tailoring, but the shapes have become more voluminous and a little more relaxed." - Jason Wu

Take note. Fur bags are predicted to be the go-to accessory for fall.

P.S. Yes, that's Brazilian bombshell/Vicky Secret vet Adriana Lima opening the show (pic 1). In an incredibly rare Fashion Week appearance, one attendee described her demure duds and sultry swagger as a widow "hunting for her next husband at a funeral." Me-ow.
