This is perhaps my favorite design trick picked up during last week's visit to the Elle Decor Modern Life Concept House. Absent a foyer, designer Beth Martin created a makeshift entry for this living room with a custom-built mirror. The glass simply slips into its base providing a freestanding backdrop for a console while unobtrusively separating the living and dining areas. It's like a floating wall. Dare I say genius?
