Interiors: Jean-Louis Deniot's Paris Retreat
As noted here, the September issue of Elle Décor is chock full of goodies. Not only does it showcase the Mercer Island home posted a few weeks ago, but it also includes this gentleman chic apartment by designer Jean-Louis Deniot. I love how perfectly Parisian it is – melding all kinds of styles and textures into an undoubtedly stylish space.
A pair of 1960s Knoll sofas serve as the living room’s primary seating, and the mantel is custom-made from Turkish marble. In an ironic pairing, a photograph of an industrial wasteland hangs on walls covered by an ethereal, trompe-l'oeil sky. The entry features an array of midcentury modern pieces including a credenza by Finn Juhl and Niels Vodder.
In the library, a vintage Gio Ponti chair is paired with a Jacques Adnet desk and C. Jeré lamp. As an unconventional wall treatment, a bark-inspired pattern was laser-printed onto canvas. The dining room walls are sheathed in custom wallpaper made using layers of paint, varnish, and marble powder. Stripes!
The cabinetry in the kitchen is clad in hammered silver, and the countertops and floor are marble. This combo may be my favorite thing about the apartment! In the master bedroom, the bed is nestled inside a velvet-covered alcove. A C. Jeré wall sculpture hangs above. I’m in love.
