Have you seen the hat? It’s everywhere. Perhaps, not literally, but it’s becoming the accessory of choice for both fashion editors and fashionistas. When I first spotted the Balenciaga “visor hat” last year, I thought it was one of those quirky, runway-only looks not for wear by the average woman. Oversized and strange – the hat has many practical applications (i.e., sun protection for upper arms, shoulders, face, and neck), but is it chic? I’m unsure but, much like the open-toed bootie, it’s growing on me.

Retailing for around $3200, the hat was inspired by Balenciaga's 1967 bride (left) and debuted during the label's Spring-Summer 2012 Pre-Collection and Fashion Show (right). The hat can now be found in oodles of magazine editorials and perhaps, on safari or glamping in a luxurious locale.
